Cardizem

Classified as part of the calcium channel blockers group, Cardizem is but one of the most popular prescription medications offered for people suffering from heart disorders, particularly angina pectoris or chest pain. It is distributed and marketed throughout the world for such purpose, and it’s nice to know that many of those who have used it have experienced positive results.

But, how does Cardizem work to treat such condition?

According to several studies and researches, Cardizem when taken hinders or blocks the flow of calcium into the cells of the coronary arteries. This blocking is what allows the coronary arteries to be free from any contractions, making it more relaxed and stable. It is also this action which allows the arteries of the heart and other parts of the body to be dilated. So as a result, the heart rate and rhythm is made more stable than before.

Once the arteries of the coronary system are relaxed, the Cardizem then acts to prevent or eliminate the symptoms of angina pectoris or chest pain. This is also what leads to the reduction of blood pressure levels, then lowering the burden that the affected heart is holding. The heart is then left effectively pumping blood to make the rest of the body in good shape.

Although formulated to treat heart problems, Cardizem is also prescribed by most experts to treat the bothering symptoms of Reynaud’s Phenomenon or the loss of fingers and toes circulation. There are also others who suggest its use for controlling involuntary movements known medically as tardive dyskinesia.

Whatever condition the Cardizem may be used for, there are several important facts that patients should note about before taking any of each dose. First is that although this prescription drug is deemed capable of treating high blood pressure, it does not work actually to cure the condition. It only functions to control the problem. With that, it’s no wonder that you will be dealing with blood pressure for the rest of your days. In addition, note that if the medication is taken for treating angina pectoris, don’t suddenly stop the treatment once the desired result is achieved. This can only lead to further complications on your coronary system.

Speaking of risks or complications, people consuming this treatment may experience certain Cardizem side effects, which can be minor or serious depending upon the situation. The most common of the side effects that such drug is capable of causing are constipation, flushing of the face, weakness, dizziness and headache. For the severe side effects, you may encounter certain forms of severe allergic reactions such as breathing difficulty, chest tightness, rashes, hives, and itching. Irregular heartbeats, bleeding and swollen gums, and hallucinations may develop as well.

If any of such above mentioned side effects are experienced, it is always important for every patient to immediate call for medical help. Check with your doctor as soon as possible so to prevent further complications.

Overdosage must also be avoided while taking the Cardizem for the fact that this condition may trigger such minor and severe side effects to form.

Given those facts, patients suffering from coronary disorders, such as those mentioned above, are expected to use the said treatment only under the guidance of an expert. Make sure to check the medicine label for dosing instructions, or ask a specialist to detail the instructions to you personally. Often, you will find this medication given in the form of injection. When using it by yourself, maintain only the right dose. Disregard those that contain particles, and keep everything needed safe or out of children’s reach. In case you fall to the trap of missing a dose of this medication, then use it to the soonest time possible. Never ever use a double dose at a time.

The Cardizem is now offered under several brand names. Two of the most well-known are Cardizem LA and Cardizem CD.
