Ceftin

Known by its generic name, cefuroxime, Ceftin is one potent antibacterial solution to any bacterial infections. It was formulated and introduced to the public to feature chemical characteristics similar to that of penicillin. It belongs to the antibiotic group of semi-synthetic cephalosporin, and thus capable of eliminating a large variety of harmful organisms, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, N. gonorrhoeae, and Haemophilus influenzae, to mention but a few.

Being capable of killing those bacteria organisms, it’s no surprise for Ceftin to be prescribed for a number of conditions caused by bacterial infections. The common uses for Ceftin are chronic and mild bacterial infections of the ears, skin, throat, urinary tract, lungs, and sinuses. It is also prescribed as a treatment for gonorrhea knowing that it is capable of killing N. gonorrhoeae bacteria. And, if you find some doctors recommending it for Lyme disease, then don’t be surprised for this medication is also said to be effective against that condition.

Now, What Is The Proper Way Of Taking Ceftin?

The key to a successful bacterial infection treatment is to take a medication according to what is prescribed to you by your doctor. In the case of Ceftin antibiotic, patients are allowed to take the medicine with an empty or full stomach. Although that said, experts still suggest taking it with meals believing that the solution enters and flows through the bloodstream easily and quickly when taken with food. This will ensure a functional medication. And, although Ceftin is available in tablet form, you still have the chance to choose the suspension form which is often prescribed to be taken with food. If suspension is your choice, make sure to shake it well before the intake.

If, for instance, a dose of Ceftin is missed in a particular period of day, make sure to take it the soonest time possible. However, if you think it’s almost time for the next dose, better skip the one or ignore it totally, while going back to the normal schedule. Never ever take the dose in twos for that may cause you to feel certain side effects of overdosage.

Speaking of side effects, it’s worth noting that unlike the other antibacterial medications, the Ceftin works with only transient side effects. Other than that, it is well tolerated making it not that risky for its consumers. The most listed possible side effects associated with the use of Ceftin are nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting, dizziness, headache, insomnia, fussiness in children, and vaginal discharge or itching. These side effects are less serious though, but these still call for medical help. And, while there are less serious, there are also a number of truly serious side effects of Ceftin, including jaundice, fever, bloody or watery diarrhea, convulsions or seizures, sore throat, and blistering and peeling of the skin.

If any of those mentioned side effects are experienced after taking a dose of Ceftin, make sure to call for a professional’s help to prevent further complications. Note that they are no big joke that once left ignored or unattended can cause further medical problems, even death.

From side effects, note Ceftin according to its possible drug interactions. This is but another important step to make since there are some medications that Ceftin may interact to cause certain problems. Typically, patients who have history cephalosporin allergy aren’t allowed to take this medicine. Other than that, the use of this drug and other antibiotics may cause alteration of the bacteria flora in the colon. This alteration is what allows the bacteria responsible for the so-called “pseudomembranous colitis” to grow and develop, and those who are affected by it may experience most of the above mentioned side effects, including fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and shock. Lastly, Ceftin may interact with probenecid in a negative manner.

Given all those important facts, there’s nothing best for every concerned patient to do now than to consult a doctor. He or she will only be one capable of telling you what and what not to do with your condition.
