But it’s okay to be skeptical, especially if you have been through all sorts of creams and gels. It is always good to know a certain product especially a medical product. Learn how Differin works before you think of using it.
Differin is a brand name. Its generic name is adapalene. It has two forms: the Differin Cream and the Differin Gel. Each one works the same by controlling how your skin produces oil. When oil production is decreased, the chance of developing or worsening acne is also decreased. The reduced production of facial skin oil is a result of Differin’s adjustment on the growth of skin cells. Differin partly contains elements that work on skin exfoliation and the prevention of skin inflammation. The two drugs – Differin Gel and Differin Cream claim to unclog dirt in the skin pores.
Different people have different skin sensitivities, so you need to know if which Differin formulation fits your face. The Differin Cream is specially made for acne patients with skins that are more sensitive. Differin Cream is more tolerable and has no odor. Differin Cream can only be used for topical purposes only and cannot be applied for intravaginal, oral or ophthalmic use. Its formulation includes 0.1% of adapalene and a compound of purified water, trolamine, squalene, methylparaben, methyl glucose sesquistearate, PEG-20 methyl glucose sesquistearate, propylparaben, edetate disodium, cylcomethicone and carbomer 934P.
The Differin Gel on the hand is free of alcohol and oil. This formulation works by penetrating through your skin’s pores and eliminating all the clogged dirt which is the leading contributor to acne formation. Using a Differin Gel will also regulate the formation of skin cells that will block the pores. Differin Gel however can only be taken with a doctor’s prescription so you need to consult with your doctor first.
Differin Gel has 0.1% adapalene along with poloxamar 182, methylparaben, edentate disodium, sodium carbomer 940, methylparaben poloxamer 182, edentate disodium, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide and purified water.
Avoid exposing your skin to too much sunlight as it will only spoil the treating effect of Differin whether it’s Gel or Cream. With using Differin Gel or Cream, you may feel itchiness, drying of skin, reddening and stinging within a few weeks of application, although it is very normal. You can use sun block creams along with your Differin Gel treatment or wear clothing that will protect you from the sun. Never use cosmetic products or other acne medication along with your Different Gel treatment since this may result to undesirable effects.
If you may not be convinced with the product or would like to know the suitability of your skin with Differin treatment, it is best to check with your doctor. If side effects of using Differin worsen seek medical attention right away.
