Feldene

Feldene is a drug for osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Learn the proper methods of administering this drug, the conditions that doctors need to review, proper dosage and other important facts about Feldene.

The generic name for Feldene is Piroxicam. Feldene is said to be an NSAID or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is taken as a treatment to reduce the painful effects of the symptoms of osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and even dysmenorrhea.

Prior to taking Feldene, a health care expert or your doctor needs to check on present medical condition. You have to be examined of conditions like asthma, anemia, high sensitivity to aspirin, bleeding, diabetes, recent CABG or coronary artery bypass graft, angina, hypertension, leg edema, blood clotting problems, heartbeat irregularities, heart failure, kidney problems, liver disease, previous stroke, stomach problems, ulcerative colitis and SLE or systematic lupus erythematosus.

The doctor will check on your alcohol intake, smoking, delicate reactions to food, preservatives, medicines and NSAID ingredients, pregnancy and breast-feeding.

When taking Feldene, always follow the instructions given to you by a health care expert or your doctor. Feldene capsule should be carefully taken orally. Follow up your intake with a glass of water. You can take first a small amount of water before swallowing the capsule if you have difficulty gulping oral drugs. It also helps to have a good posture by sitting up-straight when taking Feldene capsule. To avoid sleeping interruption, take your dose 10 minutes before going to bed. If you may experience stomach trouble during your first intake, may take Feldene with your regular meal. More often than not, Feldene is taken only once daily.

If you posses any of the previously mentioned medical conditions, the doctor or health care expert may adjust your dosage and schedule. Make sure to discuss this clearly with them. Remember your dose and always be on time. If you have forgotten to take your Feldene capsule, you can catch up if it is not yet too soon for the next dose. Do not increase or even decrease your dosage without your doctor’s consent.

Certain drugs you may be using or had been using can interact greatly with your Feldene treatment. Tell your doctor if you take or took any of the following: aspirin, cyclosporine, alcohol, prednisone, other NSAID, cidofovir, entecavir, lithium drugs, hypertension medication, drugs that influence platelets, warfarin or other drugs used to make blood thinner, pemetrexed, diuretic pills and methotrexate.

Inform your doctor or a health care professional if you are taking over the counter drugs or herbal preparations like ginkgo, garlic, ginger, biloba and feverfew, herbal medicines and diet supplements. Your treatment may be greatly affected if you are a constant smoker, drinks too much caffeine or alcohol or may be using illegal drugs.
