Lasix

The generic name for Lasix is Furosemide Tablets. The Lasix drug is mainly used for treating high blood pressure or swelling caused by water retention. The swelling is generally related to congestive heart failure, kidney disease, or heart disease. Lasix may also be used for other conditions, but this is to be deemed by physicians first and foremost.

Primarily, Lasix acts as a loop diuretic. A loop diuretic is actually a drug that helps kidneys get rid of electrolytes and water more than the normal amounts of such. Health conditions that involve excess of salt and water retention are usually treated with Lasix.

But before you do take Lasix, you have to be very sure that you can indeed take the drug. Lasix without a prescription can prove to be very harmful to any person. So, you have to be sure that you have your physician’s prescription when taking this drug.

If you are allergic to any component of Lasix, then it’s best that you don’t take the drug at all. To be sure of this, consult your physician before taking Lasix. If you have urinary problems, don’t take Lasix before consulting your physician. Also, taking Lasix while you’re taking ethacrynic acid might result into a harmful interaction of both medications. Thus, it’s better not to take Lasix with ethacrynic acid.

There are also medical conditions that would very well interact with Lasix. If any of the following medical conditions apply to you, then it’s best that you don’t take Lasix at all. Be sure to inform your physician so that another drug can be administered instead.

If you are with child, or you’re planning to have one, don’t take Lasix. This also applies to mothers who are breastfeeding as well. Lasix has components that can complicate pregnancies.

If you are taking any prescription drugs, taking Lasix might complicate the effects of your ongoing medication. This also applies to nonprescription drugs, and even dietary and herbal supplements.

Don’t take Lasix if you have a condition called ascites. Ascites refers to the condition where one has fluid in his or her abdomen. Also, don’t take the drug if you have liver and kidney complications, diabetes, hearing problems, or blood disease porphyria. The medications you may be taking might interact negatively with some of the components of Lasix.

The side effects of Lasix include dizziness, and can even cause blurred vision at times. It is very important not to take Lasix with alcohol, as the dizziness just might worsen when this happens. Take extra care when taking Lasix, especially when you’re driving, to avoid any untoward incidents.

Should you feel these certain side effects of Lasix, just sit or lie down for a few minutes. The dizziness comes in waves, so take a short period of rest when you feel such waves.

For patients with diabetes, keep close watch on your blood sugar levels. Taking Lasix can affect your blood sugar levels. Consult your physician, so that he or she may advise how you should go about with the dosage of your diabetes medication.

Lasix is a very strong diuretic as well. Be sure to administer the proper dosage of Lasix because too much intake of the drug can lead to mineral and water loss. Keep your physician updated, should you feel very thirsty or feel any muscle cramps.

Lasix is a prescription drug that should be taken only by the person it is prescribed for. This prescription drug should not be shared with anyone else as well. This is because of the serious side effects taking the drug may incur.

And, as always, Lasix should be kept out of children’s reach. This is still obviously because of the side effects that can very well be fatal for children. Do not hesitate to contact your physician if you have any questions pertaining to the drug.
