Macrobid

The generic name for Macrobid is Nitrofurantoin. The drug Macrobid is an antibacterial drug that specializes in the treatment of UTIs, or urinary tract infections. UTI’s are primarily caused by certain bacteria strains. Macrobid pills attempt to obstruct the bacteria’s chemical activities, which results into its death.

Macrobid allergy reactions do happen in some patients. This is why you should consult your physician before taking Macrobid. Your physician might do some tests, to determine whether you are not you are allergic to some components of Macrobid. If determined that you are indeed allergic to any component, your physician just might prescribe another form of medication for you.

Macrobid and pregnancy is a combination that should be avoided as well. It is not advisable for pregnant women to take Macrobid. In fact, Macrobid can cause very harmful effects to unborn babies.

If you have kidney problems of some sort, Macrobid just might not be the drug for you as well. Your condition just might worsen if you take Macrobid. So, if you have such a medical condition, be sure to inform your physician. Do this immediately, just to be on the safe side.

Other medical conditions that anyone taking Macrobid should be wary about include anemia, diabetes, blood chemical abnormalities, nerve damage, porphyria, and lung disease. If you have any of these medical conditions, you should inform your physician before you take Macrobid.

Aside from the medical conditions, there are also Macrobid side effects any patient has to be aware of. Macrobid pills can very well cause drowsiness, lightheadedness, and dizziness. It can even cause blurred vision. With these side effects, it’s no wonder you should not take Macrobid with alcohol. Macrobid and alcohol, when mixed, can worsen the side effects. So, it would be better not to take Macrobid with alcohol at all. It would also be better not to take Macrobid when you’re handling or operating machinery. Or any other potentially harmful activities, for that matter! This would be the safe and responsible thing to do for yourself and for the people in the vicinity.

Other Macrobid side effects that might occur are stomach cramps, diarrhea, and bloody stools. Contact your physician, should any of these side effects occur. Do not take it upon yourself to treat diarrhea with Macrobid. This can very well do you more harm than good.

Do not stop using Macrobid without finishing the full treatment. This is true even if you start feeling better, or even if the symptoms of UTI have already subsided. If you do not complete the Macrobid treatment, there’s every chance that the bacteria has not been fully terminated and flushed out of your system. The bacteria could also become immune to Macrobid. Should you contract UTI again, and Macrobid is prescribed to you, it just might no longer work as efficiently as before. There might be a need for another form of medication outside the generic family of Macrobid. So, just be sure to finish the full course of your treatment.

Also, you have to be sure not to miss a dose of Macrobid. But, human as we are, we do make mistakes. If you do miss a dose, be sure to take it as soon as you remember. But if it’s almost time for the next dosage, just skip the dose that you missed. Retain your original schedule. Do not ever take two Macrobid doses at once. This is something you should really avoid doing. Doing such can really be harmful to your system. Your UTI condition can even worsen.
