Nizoral

The generic name for Nizoral is Ketoconazole. This is actually an anti-fungal drug that is given to treat certain fungal infections that take place inside the body. Nizoral is also given to treat fungal skin infections that are very difficult to treat. In fact, these skin infections are of the kind that has not been cured even after the application of creams, ointments, and oral drugs. The oral form of Nizoral is not really recommended because long-term usage of it can lead to liver complications and kidney disease as well.

But Nizoral also comes in topical form, and it comes in the form of Nizoral Cream. This Nizoral medicine that comes in cream form is also used to treat fungal infections, and also infections caused by yeast. What Nizoral Cream actually does is that it hinders the growth of the bacteria or yeast simply by killing it. The indications of Nizoral Cream are the following: tinea pedis, or athlete’s foot; tinea corporis, or ringworm of the body; tinea cruris, or ringworm of the groin; seborrheic dermatitis; tinea versicolor, or sun fungus; and cutaneous candidiasis, or yeast infection of the skin. Particularly, for tinea versicolor Nizoral is really very effective on this condition.

Which brings us to another form of Nizoral medication, which is the shampoo form. Ketaconazole is still the main component of Nizoral shampoo, and its main purpose is to kill fungi that can cause dandruff and seborrhea. Originally, Nizoral shampoo was just meant to kill the fungi that can cause dandruff and seborrhea. But later studies have proven that Nizoral shampoo has effects that can very well please people who have hair loss problems. But the effects here do not really pertain to hair growth for people who have hair loss problems. Rather the effect Nizoral has is that it prevents these people from losing more hair, with the regular use of the product. Now, this should be interesting stuff. Because not only are you getting rid of dandruff, you are also thwarting the possibility of hair loss. With the help of Nizoral hair loss problems just might become a thing of the past.

Before you undergo Nizoral treatment, you must first determine some things. This is true, even if Nizoral is just of the topical kind here. First of all, you should determine whether or not you are allergic to any component of Nizoral. If you have had allergic reaction to ketoconazole or miconazole before, then you are most likely allergic to Nizoral. Nizoral cream has sulfites as well. So, if you have had problems using certain substances, like dye or preservatives, then you’re most likely allergic to Nizoral as well. To be on the safe side, just consult your physician regarding the matter.

It has not been determined whether or not the use of Nizoral can cause birth defects in unborn babies. Studies on animals, however, have showed more definitive results. And the results indicate that there is a strong possibility that the use of Nizoral can cause birth defects in humans as well. So, if you’re undergoing Nizoral treatment, and you become pregnant, you should inform your physician right away. It always pays to be safe than sorry.

As for nursing mothers, no definite relationship can be determined as to whether Ketoconazole can be transmitted to babies through breast milk. But the studies that have been conducted show that the possibility for this is highly unlikely. But just to be sure, you can consult your physician about this as well.

Follow your physician’s instructions when using Nizoral, especially Nizoral cream. Be vigilant about your dosage schedule, and try not to miss any dosages. And if you have questions regarding your treatment, then be sure to discuss these with your physician.
