Singulair

Singulair or montelukast sodium aids people or patients who are suffering an asthma attack or those who might be asthmatic. An asthma is the inflammation of your airways. Once the air passages are swollen, it narrows the bronchial tubes, thus, allowing less air to pass through and making it difficult to breathe.

Singulair drug is referred to as leukotriene antagonist. Leukotrienes are accountable for some asthma attacks and allergies. They are eicosanoid lipid negotiators. Singulair blocked body substances such as the leukotrienes causing an improvement in allergic rhinitis and asthma conditions. This is not a steroid. Studies on Singulair showed that it does not influence children’s growth rate.

Prescription of Singulair is for the treatment and prevention of allergic rhinitis and asthma. It is used for the management and medication of asthma both in adult and children aging from twelve months and beyond. It controls signs of rhinitis such as runny nose, sneezing, and stuffy nose. It treats allergic rhinitis on children from two years up and adults as well.

Singulair is used on daily basis for excellent results. You may need some time to get maximum satisfaction of this medicine. One is advise not to take Singulair if he or she is allergic to montelukast sodium. Other factors to be considered before taking this medication are pregnancy, breast-feeding and other medical allergies. If you are into any of these, you are not allowed to take this medication unless your doctor told you to do so. Or those with liver diseases should inform their healthcare provider first before taking Singulair.

Generic Singulair are taken once every evening. It comes in chewable tablets, oral granules and just plain tablets. It can be taken even with the absence of asthma symptoms. The oral granules must be taken within fifteen minutes after the packet has been opened. It is not to be dissolved in any liquid. You can mix it though with mashed carrots, rice or a spoonful of ice cream. You may take liquids afterwards.

Never take Singulair without a doctor’s prescription. You may continually take other medications for asthma, as directed. Ask for medical attention if you think you need more dosage than what has been given to you. This could be a sign of a very serious attack.
Side effects of Singulair might be allergic reactions like swelling of lips or tongue, difficulty breathing, and tightness of throat. One can feel to a tingling feeling or numbness, an unexplained sores, and swelling of sinuses. Less serious effects are heartburn, headache, tiredness, flu, rash, dizziness, nasal irritations, irritability, cough, or sore throat. If you feel one or any of these, it is best to consult your doctor.

It is rare for asthmatic patients who are taking Singulair to experience side effects that did not go away or that got worse. There were occurrences but very few for patients who were on steroid pills for their asthma. But the steroid medications were either lowered or were stopped. Although it was not certainly known that Singulair causes such condition, it is advised to let your physician know any side effects you might be feeling. You can inquire from your healthcare provider or pharmacist for more possible effects of this medicine.

Singulair is not a substitute for your other asthma medications. You may continue with other prescriptions as long as it is directed by your doctor. Do not stop taking your other medicines unless you are ordered to by your attending physician.

Some medicines may be prescribed for certain conditions not mentioned in a medical information leaflets. Never attempt to use Singulair to treat conditions it wasn’t prescribed. Remember to keep all medicines in a safe place that are out of children’s reach. Store Singulair away from moisture and heat to keep its efficiency.
