Tretinoin

Sold on small sized tubes with the brand name Retin-A, Tretinoin is best known for treatment of acne vulgaris and keratosis pilaris and can even treat acute promyelocytic leukemia. Tretinoin Retin-A mostly sold in cream or in gel.

General Information

Tretinoin is in its most familiar form a topical cream indicated to prevent or treat acne formation. It is a derivative of a naturally occurring vitamin A; hence it is generally safe with no known side effects. Because of its conformity to most biological functions, various health and beauty laboratories often include the chemical compound in their research, occasionally “discovering” some of its newer uses. Such that Tretinoin is most often integrated with several other health and beauty products, mostly on skin improvements, anti aging, and hair growth.

The brand name Retin-A markets Tretinoin as a prescription topical drug used primarily for treatment acne vulgaris and kerotosis pilaris. The mechanism by which Tretinoin acts stimulating the skin cells to metabolize faster. The chemical Tretinoin achieve this by irritating the skin surface; hence the burning sensation once the topical cream is applied. This burning and irritating removes the topmost layer of the skins, thus helping the next layer to grow and mature. In effect, Tretinoin makes the skin replacement turnover this swifter.

On skin areas where acne is present, the rapid shedding and rebuilding of the skin would prevent bacteria accumulation on the skin, as well as preventing the skin pores from getting clogged by dirt. Perhaps one of the most surprisingly efficient prevention of the formation of acne is this shedding. Not only it reduces oil in the face, it practically replaces old pores with newer pores. Some topical Tretinoin (including Retin-A) compounds are mixed with antibacterial chemicals to further the substance’s effect in preventing and treating acne. The antibacterial agent kills the bacteria in already existing acne, hereby alleviating the swelling and letting the shedding process take healing effect.

The skin treated with Tretinoin exhibit thinner layers (dead tissues accumulate into layers, which in turn defines the skin’s thickness). This consequentially shallows out deep-seated wrinkles, and would manifestly reduce the amount of wrinkles. Slogans saying that Their Tretinoin prevent s aging is really skin shedding technically.

Prescription

Tretinoin is a prescription drug. With the Retin-A preparation as topical gel is around 0.01% and 0.025%. Tretinoin cream for acne is available with Retin-A and so is Tretinoin cream for wrinkles. The biggest use of Tretinoin is for the treatment of acne, though recently applications for Tretinoin would include skin whitening, anti aging by eliminating wrinkles, skin damage by sun treatment (sunburn).

As a topical solution, Tretinoin is applied to a skin area that’s already thoroughly clean with soap and water. The affected area should be dried thoroughly before the Tretinoin substance is applied, rubbing it into the area for several seconds. Than the hands that administered the treatment should be washed. Tretinoin, if ingested in considerable amounts, is damaging.

Side Effects And General Precautions

Tretinoin has no known side effects, except for the burning sensation that is felt during the application. Skin redness may occur of soft skin regions and sometimes the itchiness will persist, but only on a short time. Natural usage and effect would be the unpleasant burning feeling that would gradually subside as the treatment is stopped.

For pregnant mothers the effects of the usage of Tretinoin is still largely unknown that it is generally wise to avoid the usage any medications, including topical cream Tretinoin except when there is a qualified health expert available for consultation. In lactating mothers, it is also not documented if Tretinoin will be passed to the breast milk.
