Tylenol is America’s most popular brand of pain reliever. The generic name of Tylenol is Acetaminophen, which is also called as Paracetamol. The name Tylenol was directly derived from the name of its active ingredient NaceTYLpaminophENOL, and it is sold by Johnson & Johnson.
General Information
Tylenol is enjoyed for its many benefits, including benefits not directly related to its composition, such as its being “over the counter” medication, and widespread scope making it the least hassle to acquire drug. Tylenol is generally safe, with very few side effects, reacts to only a very few medication, making it safer than aspirin which the latter had been recently proven to have a degree of side effects. A stronger version of Tylenol, Tylenol extra strength, is also sold a pain reliever containing Codeine and marketed as Tylenol 3.

The chemical Acetaminophen belongs to the class of drugs called Antipyretics (drugs that reduces fever) and Analgesics (drugs that reduces pain). Even in its prevalent usage, the actual working mechanism of Acetaminophen is still not known. However, it is popularly theorized that Acetaminophen, as a pain reliever, increases pain threshold. This may be done by numbing the several pain receptors in the brain, hence is why the pain is still present after administering Acetaminophen although the pain is now bearable. Acetaminophen, as a fever reducer, controls fever by regulating the body temperature, by interacting with the heat-regulating center of the brain.
Tylenol is prescribed to a wide range of illnesses due to its capacity to bring down fever and eases pain. Tylenol is prescribed treatment to relieve symptoms of flu, allergies, cold and cough. In particular during the onset of an illness, Tylenol is prescribe to alleviate side symptoms of diseases: headaches due to lack of sleep in insomnia, pain acquired during a physical mishap, pain due to swollen portions of the body such as in arthritis or even muscle cramping and strain due to strenuous activity, reducing body temperature due to dozens of diseases. And because the drug rarely interacts with other drugs, Tylenol is generally safe to be used in junction with other medications.

Acetaminophen, Paracetamol and Tylenol doesn’t require doctor’s prescription as it is an over the counter drug. However, regulated dosage is still to be maintained, as it is a strong drug. Recommended dosages are usually found on the back portion of the medicine battle (in the case of Tylenol products). The FDA approved Acetaminophen in 1951.
Tylenol can be purchased as, coated caplets, gel caps, gel tabs, chewable tablets, traditional pills, liquid suspension and suppositories. Common dosages are 325 mg, 500 mg and 650 mg. A generic Acetaminophen is also available which doesn’t require doctor’s prescription.
Acetaminophen, Paracetamol, Tylenol is a prescribe treatment for used for the relief of body aches associated by other diseases. It is also a prescribe treatment used to alleviate the symptoms of fever. Tylenol can be administered to help relieving pain accompanying swelling and inflammation in joint pain such is in arthritis, though it doesn’t help alleviate the symptoms of swelling and inflammation. In relieving pain due to osteoarthritis, it is an effective treatment with the same benefits as Ibuprofen.
The recommended dosage of Tylenol is 325 mg to 650 mg for every 4 to 6 hours with adults. The maximum dose per day is 4 grams. In child treatment, the dosage range is 40 mg to 650 mg for every 4 hours.
Acetaminophen is generally accepted to be safe for use of pregnant mothers, still its best to be done in accordance to a physician’s recommendation. Acetaminophen is excreted with the mother’s milk; however, it is generally accepted to be safe.
